The Mom Stays in the Picture

Take a moment to flip through your photos from 2012. You have birthday photos, vacation photos, a great shot of the family pet. But where are you? How many photos did it take until you found one of you? I am especially guilty of this. I take pictures of my kids all the time, but it is a rare moment when I hand the camera off to someone else and take a photo with them.
Allison Tate wrote about this in her article "The Mom Stays in the Picture."

But we really need to make an effort to get in the picture. Our sons need to see how young and beautiful and human their mamas were. Our daughters need to see us vulnerable and open and just being ourselves -- women, mamas, people living lives. Avoiding the camera because we don't like to see our own pictures? How can that be okay?

There is always an excuse: I don't want to, I don't look good, I'll do it later… Whatever your reasons for avoiding the camera's eye, begin creating a photographic legacy for your children, and make 2013 the year you stay in the picture.
